Tips For Sticking With Your Goals in 2019

The beginning of the year. It can be an exciting time, or a daunting time as you look ahead at your goals and to-do list for the new year. While some people laugh at the idea of New Year’s resolutions, personally, I love them when I look at them as New Year’s Goals. However, the way you set up your goals can determine your ability to achieve them from the very beginning. If you’re as big of a fan of goal-setting as I am, or you want to learn how to properly set goals for the new year, be sure to keep reading!

1.     Make Clear, Achievable Goals

Learning how to properly set goals from the beginning is a huge part of predicting your success for the rest of the year. An extremely important part of goal setting is making your goals clear and measurable. Say you want to get in shape in 2019, instead of listing your goal as “get in shape”, it is important to make a measurable goal, such as “go to the gym 3 times a week”. By making a specific and measurable goal, it will be easy for you to look back at the end of the year and see if you kept up on your goal. Also, it is important to make your goals achievable. For example, if your goal is to save money this year, make sure that the number you set for your savings is achievable for your income. If you start out the year with goals that are simply unachievable for your life, you may be ending the year with disappointment

2.     Keep Yourself Accountable

If you have a difficult time sticking to your goals, it is important to find someone in your life who can help keep you accountable. This person can be a friend, a family member, a spouse, or anyone you feel comfortable sharing your goal with. This person can be made aware of your goals and can help you to stay on track moving forward. For example, if your goal is to go to the gym 3 times a week, find a gym partner who can help keep you motivated to go on the days where it seems challenging!

3.     Remove Distractions

This may seem simple, but it is an extremely important step in achieving your goals. It is important to remove distractions in your life that may affect your goals. If your goal is to clean up your diet by eating better meals, keep the chips out of your home! In a more difficult situation, if your goal is work or education related, and you have people in your life that are keeping you from achieving these goals, have a conversation with them about your goals, and how they can begin to help you achieve them instead of holding you back.
